The Hanged Man: Perspectives on Pain

IMG_5137
One of my favorite cards – The Hanged Man – came up in a client reading yesterday. It led to a really interesting discussion about suffering.

I was asking if a certain pattern of suffering was the result of the client maybe somehow romanticizing that particular brand of pain.

This then brought up the question of whether maybe certain people actually need some amount of suffering in their lives. Like, so as to ground them, or to enable them to focus. We tend to equate “pain” with “bad,” but it’s possible that some smaller doses can actually be constructive.

Anyway, I found the discussion to be very thought-provoking…and very Hanged Man!
