Dream with the Fishes…

I’ve made it a sort of on-again, off-again practice to post about some of my weird dreams in my social media outlets whenever those dreams feel like they might have some connection to metaphysical topics…or even just a more vague but definite overall metaphysical vibe about them (you know…more so than dreams already have).

And I’ve decided that in the spirit of this being a “new year” and all, I’ll not only revive the practice, but hereby pledge to write up as many of my odd dreams as I can in 2017. Sometimes doing this helps me to pull the messages from out of them, and sometimes, I can get behind the idea that maybe the messages aren’t even meant for me – maybe I’m just the delivery system, and the messages are meant for somebody else out there. Like maybe you, for example, reading this right now…

My piece of Shattuckite…

Before I detail my weird dream for you, it may be important to note that I sometimes like to try to affect my dream-experiences by putting a crystal under my pillow. The variety of crystal is subject to change depending on my prevailing mood and any cues I feel I’ve been getting from the Universe. Last night, I used a piece of Shattuckite that I got just a couple of weeks ago. This stone is believed to stimulate the Third Eye Chakra, thereby greatly enhancing any perceptive abilities, both sensory and extra-. People inclined to this type of thinking might say that Shattuckite can beef up your psychic input.

Your mileage may vary, but I can say that almost every time I’ve slept with this particular piece of Shattuckite under my pillow in the last two weeks or so, my dreaming has increased in both quantity (i.e., I’m dreaming more than I was in the last few weeks prior to my Shattuckite purchase) and quality (my dreams have been more vivid and more agreeable about allowing me to remember them the next morning).

Anyway, here’s what my dream-self got up to last night:

I was standing outside somewhere, possibly behind the house that I live in now, although in the dream, the weather was warm and balmy, not all frosty, and choked with half a foot of snow as it actually is as I type away at this post. There were a few other people with me, although they didn’t seem to have exact identities – no names, no faces, and they weren’t people that I know in my waking world.

As we milled about, enjoying the sunshine and the warmth, there were these large fish drifting around near us through the air. In the dream, this was completely natural.

What was not natural – even in this dream-scenario – was what happened next…

barracuda_laban
A Barracuda (clearly not the kind with wings and fur that floats in the air and comes when you call it)…

The fish all looked a lot like the real-world creature that we call the Barracuda. They were long and substantial, and built for speed. In the dream, though, this air-version had wings that were blurred to near-invisibility like a Hummingbird’s, they had tufts of fur, and they were mostly colored a deep, rich, striking shade of blue that doesn’t happen too often in nature out here in consensus reality.

And for some reason, I got it into my head to try to call one of the fish over to me, even though I knew in the dream that these were untamed creatures, about as likely to come when summoned by humans as a Squirrel or a Deer or a Robin would be in the flesh-world.

But here’s the weird part: the fish I was addressing floated over to me when I called it. It hovered before me, and it let me reach out and begin scratching it gently with my fingertips beneath its “chin.”

I was astounded by this, there in the dream-space, and so were my vague dream-friends, who began expressing their own various versions of astonishment while they watched me pet this floating fish.

I continued to commune with the air-fish for a while, until the dream sort of ushered me back out of it, and I woke up, still feeling the firm pressure and mass of the fish against my fingers…

And so there you have it: this morning’s edition of “Crystal-Spawned Dreaming.” Maybe some of it means something to you: the Barracuda, a flying/floating fish, a wild creature choosing to relate to a human, the Shattuckite… If so, I hope the message is a helpful one!

More weird dreams to follow as they happen… And I heartily recommend the crystal-under-the-pillow trick to any and all of you! Give it a try and see what dreams may come…

Iolite Dreams, Part 2

IMG_4666Yesterday, I posted about a dream I had after I’d stashed three pieces of a stone called Iolite underneath my pillow.  The dream involved me discovering a sort of socket beneath a small metal plate in the back of my skull, and then me cleaning away from the socket a bunch of fairly nauseating goop that had built up in and around the socket over the years.  I took this dream to mean that I had just somehow cleansed my channels of communication with any “higher powers” that were seeking to plug into me and download some helpful info.

Last night, I decided to go for Round 2 with the Iolite.  And I dreamed like crazy!  It was the kind of dreaming that’s extremely busy, involving multiple storylines and a cast of dozens.  At one point, I was riding in a car, and an assassin pulled up alongside on a bicycle, and tried to destroy the car’s engine by reaching over and smashing it, although I managed to drift dreamlike out of the carnage without being hurt.

And then – and this is what I took to actually be the most critical part of the dream – I got a couple of new tattoos designed to help me channel my energy, and then I went to a gym, so as to keep fit for the next surge of intrigue.  I studied the tattoos at this point, and was very dissatisfied with them.  They were meant to just be two bold, straight lines, both of them on my left arm, one on the outside of my forearm, and one on the inside of my upper arm.  In the gym, though, I could see that the tattoo artist had applied them in this shaky, meandering fashion, and they were kind of thin and spindly – not promising at all for performing their intended function.  And this was about where I woke up.

In metaphysical thought, the left side of the body is often viewed as the receptive side.  So I took this as a message telling me that I have to be highly selective now in choosing which sources will be allowed to plug themselves into my now optimized “socket.”  Just because I might have boosted my own receptivity, that doesn’t mean I have to accept every jack that gets poked in my direction (and yeah, I realize how that sounds, but it feels apt…).  Choosing my input wisely now…

An Iolite-Fueled Dream

IMG_4656I’ve posted a bunch of times about how when I sleep with pieces of Leopardskin Jasper under my pillow, it seems to give rise to animal-themed dreams for me, and then cool animal sightings the next day. Animal stuff, by the way, is part of the province that shamans would call the Lower World.

Last night, I went in a different direction: I put these three pieces of Iolite under my pillow before bed. Centuries ago, Viking types used Iolite as a pathfinder stone to help navigate during long sea voyages, as Iolite does interesting and specific things with respect to the polarization of sunlight. This was especially helpful to sailors on overcast days. In modern times, Iolite is believed to join other indigo/violet stones in connecting us up with “higher powers,” or denizens of what the shamans call the Upper World: Deities, the Higher Self, guardian angels, aliens, you name it – the kinds of presences that can be symbolized in Tarot by the Star card.

So here’s what I dreamed of this time… In my dream, I had a small metal plate in the back of my head, just above where spine meets skull. Apparently the plate had been there my entire life, but somebody was only just making me aware of it now. I used a screwdriver to remove the plate, and then saw that there was all this built-up, gross gunk collected all around the socket (which was like a jack or a port) that was lying in wait there beneath that metal plate. I carefully removed all of the gunk, rendering everything super-clean, and then reattached the metal plate, ready for something to soon be inserted into that socket in the near future… Oh, and I was somehow able to see the back of my own head the entire time this was happening.

I kind of wonder if the dream means that I just managed to open myself up to a whole new level of reception with respect to incoming transmissions from the Upper World…

Leopardskin Jasper/Leopardite

IMG_4368Jasper Journal, cont. So in addition to the new piece of Leopardskin Jasper that I bought recently while housesitting for my sister, I now have three other related pieces handy that I dug up out of storage.

In the photo, the largest stone is the one I just got. The two flanking it are from shops in LA, and were also billed as Leopardskin Jasper (which is apparently also sometimes called Jaguar Stone, which name I like a lot). The piece out in front, the one with the most obvious “spots,” was sold as “Leopardite.” I believe this is one of those situations in the crystals world that, like with Ruby in Fuchsite versus Ruby in Zoisite, lends itself to confusion, conflation, and mislabeling. I’m no authority on these Leopard stones, though, and I don’t have a full-on geological laboratory at my disposal, so won’t presume to tell you what’s what. I just know that the stones I have that were sold to me as Leopardskin Jasper all look and feel of a kind, like they must be related…but the Leopardite stone looks and feels slightly different, like it might be its own thing.

But anyway, I plan to keep sleeping with different pieces of the various Jaspers under my pillow for a while, and reporting the results here, because IG needs to know what’s what with these things! For last night’ experiment, I stuck that longer piece under my pillow, the one that looks sort of like a jawbone. There were no wild animals in my dream, but I was in a house, and just outside the closed back door, which was made mostly of glass, I could see a very large dog that was sort of playing peek-a-boo with me: it would sit there all excited and playful, and when I’d look over, it would bound off out of view…and then as my attention wandered, it would edge back into the frame again. That was about it for this round of Jasper-dreaming, but that does at least qualify as an animal-dream. It was a domesticated animal, yes…but a very large one, if that helps to make this all seem more “shamanic”…?

Moose Dream…

IMG_4329Recently I posted about how I keep having animal-related dreams whenever I put a piece of Leopardskin Jasper under my pillow, and I’ve received some requests asking me to log updates here if it happens again…

So after giving the Jasper a couple of nights off, I tried it again last night. I didn’t do anything special with it — I just watched a bunch of crap TV and then hit the hay. And yet…animal dream!

So in this dream, I was driving a couple of people somewhere. We were entering this traffic circle in a woodsy area, and I was suddenly kind of awed to see this absolutely gigantic Moose standing on a modest rise just off the road. It was just standing there watching us, totally calm. In the dream, I knew that it was a male, despite the fact that he had no antlers. This is actually consistent with current conditions, though. I’ve been studying the local Deer population, and all of these types of creatures seem to shed their antlers as the cold months set in, and then they regrow them in the Spring.

The really interesting thing was that as we approached the Moose, the people in my car couldn’t see him…even though he was way larger than even a real Moose would be. This thing was more like…elephant-size. I stopped the car, and only after we got out did the other people sort of see the big beast, and even then, they were like, “Wow, good eye, Steve!” And I was all, “Good eye? It’s bigger than some of the apartments I’ve rented!”

Moose, by the way, while an outstanding creature, is not one I’ve ever felt any special personal connection with before, and is also not one that’s been on my radar lately in the slightest, so…  Leopardskin Jasper strikes again!

Leopardskin Jasper and Animal Spirits…

IMG_4276I just got this stone a couple of days ago. It’s called Leopardskin Jasper, and it’s said to be very shamanic in nature, and especially connected with animal energies (I posted about this stone once before, nearly two years ago). I have a few pieces, currently packed away in a box somewhere, and I will tell you straight out that while I haven’t tried this often, whenever I’ve slept with a piece under my pillow, I’ve had dreams about animals almost every single time.

So last night, I tried that trick again with this new piece…

…and I dreamed that I was in a house with my mom. In the dream, she took me into the living room, and there were a bunch of wild birds on the carpet, eating seeds. This didn’t seem to faze her in the slightest. What did throw her, though, was the fact that there was also a squirrel among them. For some reason, this struck her as weird, although having a bunch of wild sparrows in the house did not.

As we took stock, the squirrel broke off, scampered over to me, and hopped up on my leg to be pet like a dog or a cat might do. It was too cute – what could I do but pet it?

I know, this is a squirrel, not some great jungle beast. But still! And now, as I write this, there’s a family of four Deer out on the lawn, and they’ve been there for almost 45 minutes now. This is the longest visitation by them ever, by far! So maybe the Leopardskin Jasper is just a rock, and has nothing to do with animals or Animal Spirits, I don’t know. And it may well mean very different things in your experience of the world than it means in mine. But I think I may continue to do this stone-under-the-pillow thing a bit more, because even if it wasn’t the stone that gave me these animal dreams and experiences, maybe it gave me enough of a placebo effect that I made it happen because I believed it could? And either way…I wouldn’t mind petting a squirrel again or having Deer make camp just outside the window…

And a final update: the Deer conclave topped out at no less than eleven (11) of the graceful creatures milling about outside the windows here before they finally disappeared into the woods!  That’s a new record…

Panther Wishes and Casino Dreams…

As promised in yesterday’s post, I wanted to memorialize the most recent Panther-related dream that I was fortunate enough to be treated to — this one went down maybe a bit over a week ago now.  I’ve written up a few of these already, including one that featured a winged Black Panther, and I’m still deeply gratified at each new recurrence of this particular dream imagery…

All these dreams...I'm starting to wonder if it's not so much me dreaming of Black Panthers, as maybe it's the other way around...?
All these dreams…I’m starting to wonder if it’s not so much me dreaming of Black Panthers, as maybe it’s the other way around…?

In this latest dream, I was arriving as one of a new small wave of visitors to some kind of casino — the kind where you not only gamble and gorge yourself at buffets, but you also book a room and spend a night or two in-house.  I was aware that my fellow arrivals and I were each toting or dragging various pieces of luggage, and we were being received by a casino employee, who was giving us some kind of standard welcome shpiel.  This mundane, canned intro speech suddenly seemed a bit other-than-standard, though, when the casino employee informed us that oh, yes, right, this particular floor of the casino that we were on was home to two very large Black Panthers and a Tiger, all of whom roamed the hallways pretty much free and at their pleasure at all times.  And not to worry, the grinning employee continued — the Big Cats were all exceedingly friendly and well-behaved, probably even more so than most of the human guests (ha ha: nervous chuckles all around…).

Anyway, I was still digesting this odd bit of information, when one of those Black Panthers appeared from out of the milling crowds…and it almost immediately oriented on me, and ambled over, not hurriedly or with any active menace about it, but I had definitely been singled out as the object of its focus.  I admit to feeling a bit of trepidation as the magnificent, but also gracefully fearsome and downright HUGE feline creature approached…

Imagine this great beast if it was so large/tall that its head was about even with the bottom of your ribcage when both of you were standing upright -- *that's* what came over to greet me in my dream...
Imagine this great beast if it was so large/tall that its head was about even with the bottom of your ribcage when both of you were standing upright — *that’s* what came over to greet me in my dream…

And then when this semi-enormous Cat reached me, it sort of gently butted me with its head such that I was impelled to seat myself in a large plush chair immediately beside me, and then as the casino employee geared up to resume with the welcome speech, the Panther sat down on the floor next to the chair, and very comfortably and with an air of great familiarity, took my left forearm into its mouth…and just held it there, in this very warm, sweet, companionable way.  It was like the Cat was telling the Universe, “I choose this human.  He has my protection.  We’re now officially bonded.”  It was kind of amazing.

Then, as the welcome tour continued, the Panther would release my arm so we could all walk along with the casino employee, but every time we paused, the Panther would again nudge me to sit down so it could resume holding my wrist or forearm carefully and lovingly in its mouth…

And after a few repetitions of this, I awoke, feeling kind of oddly blessed, and sort of like I imagine a Chosen One in a movie must feel.

I’m not sure why the casino backdrop.  Certainly Siegried & Roy proved to us in tragic fashion that Big Cats and casinos don’t always blend well together, so a case could be made that the dream holds an element of warning.  Then again, Roy was mauled by a White Tiger, not a Black Panther, and none of that incident had actually run through my conscious mind in ages at the juncture when I had the dream.  More likely to me is the notion that the casino represents the world at large: vast, frenetic, clamorous, filled with hordes of distractions and possible dangers…but then the Black Panther seems to be a very clear indicator of a protective Spirit of sorts, asserting its presence, and its willingness to watch over me.  Dreaming that dream was an overwhelmingly positive experience, that’s for sure…

And I also found in the past that whenever I would start to document my dreams here in this space, subsequent night-visions would start to grow more vivid and involved in the time that followed, and I began to remember more and more of their details.  These are more good reasons to record them, and I encourage anyone reading this to try the same exercise.  We spend nearly half our lives in the sleep state, so who’s to say that what happens to us there is any less “real” than what we experience in the waking world…?  With all that in mind…what have you dreamed up for yourself lately…??
